Theme your lockscreen with LockMS Weather

This theme is based on the LockMS theme I wrote about. It simply adds a different style of weather forecast. You can read about this theme at the first post on this page. One of the nice things about this theme is the ability to easily change the wallpaper background. It's changed through the Settings, Wallpaper menu. Here's what a couple of them look like. There are so many versions and variations there is no way I can cover everything in a tutorial. It's best for you to read the link above to learn how to further customize this theme.





Note: If you are somewhere that does not offer Wi-Fi or data reception, this theme will display a question mark for the temperature and for the weather icon or display nothing at all. I must also warn you I've found this theme to be glitchy. Sometimes the weather appears partially under the darkened status bar at the top. Sometimes the city name appear jumbled, almost as if several other city names are all piled up on top of each other (even though it only displays one name). The same thing happens to the weather temperature number. Usually a refresh or reboot fixes it.

Step 1.

Using Cydia, install WinterBoard. Then reboot the phone when prompted.




Launch Cydia again. Install Lockscreen Clock Hide. Press Install.




Restart the springboard and you'll have a modified lockscreen.




Launch Settings, and press Clock Hide. This is the settings panel for this program.

Step 2.

Download the LockMS Weather theme from post 276 on this page. Decompress the zip file and you'll have the theme.




Navigate to your iPhone's Themes folder and place the LockMS_Weather.theme file into it.




Launch Settings, press Winterboard, then press Select Themes.




Press LockMS_Weather, then press the home button. Here's what my lockscreen looks like now. There are those glitches I mentioned earlier.

Step 3.

I'm now going to customize this theme to my liking. There are many ways you can customize it however. It's best to read the thread I linked to above to learn what you can do with this theme. Navigate to your iPhone's Themes folder. I double clicked the LockMS_Weather.theme. Drag the LockBackground.html file to your desktop.




I edited the file with a program called BBEdit. You can download a trial version here.

I made numerous changes to the size of all the text elements displayed and changed their alignment on the screen. You can download my customized version of the LockBackground.html file here. I then saved the changes to the html file and reuploaded it to my iPhone's Themes/LockMS_Weather.theme folder.




To change the weather location, go into the Private folder and copy the configureMe.js file to your desktop.




I've highlighted all the variables you can change in this file. When you've made all your changes don't forget to save the file, and reupload it to the Private folder.




Here's what my lockscreen looks like now.




Now I want to get rid of the ugly green slider. I'm going to make mine transparent. You could place anything there you want, even the original sliders. To do this go to the Bundles/com.apple.TelephonyUI folder. If you want to see the original sliders then delete every file with the word bottom in it. Keep in mind, if you decide you want to keep the original sliders, then you will need to go into the Bundles/com.apple.springboard/enlproj folder and delete the SpringBoard.strings file.
