Make and use themes with WinterBoard
Section 18: Custom SMS (Messages) background image
Updated: August 30, 2010
Attention
If you have not read the two prerequisite tutorials:
Using YummyFTP and OpenSSH to create themes,
and
Understanding a theme's directory structure,
then you should prior to performing any of the instructions in the following tutorial.
Why settle for this plain old background graphic in your SMS program when you can put whatever you
want there instead? This works on all iPhones.
Step 1.
Find an image you want to use. You can experiment with the size, I found that 480 pixels in width
by 480 pixels in height worked well in either landscape or portrait mode. Save this image as
SMSBackground.png. You'll have to play around with the size to get it how you like it. 480 by
480 worked pretty well on the iPhone 4 as well, and you do not name the file differently.
Create a folder for your theme. I'm calling mine SMS background. Place your image inside this
folder.
Place this folder into your iPhone's Themes folder.
Launch Settings, and go into WinterBoard, and select your new theme.
